With the close of the year, the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County saw a much-appreciated increase in community awareness and financial assistance. Strides in creating better understanding of the needs of child victims were made through lectures and presentations by the CACSC’s Executive Director, Diana Schunn. The Wichita Crime Commission, Sedgwick County Commissioners and Downtown Rotary Club were a few of the groups she met with. Local media called upon Diana as an expert in the field of child abuse. She provided expert commentary on such topics as child homicides in Sedgwick County, the CACSC’s role in caring for child victims, and defining "normal" emotional responses from child victims of abuse.
Through these times of economic turmoil area business, foundations and community members continue to show their support of the CACSC. Many thanks to all our gracious donors, with special thanks to Spirit AreoSystems, NuStar Energy, KWCH TV 12, Hubris Communications and Traditions of Wichita for being staunch supporters of our community’s children. The CACSC also wishes to thank the Wichita Eagle for publishing their annual non-profit "Wish List". At least one donor said, "I read about the CACSC in the (Wichita) Eagle’s Wish List!" The Center celebrated the holidays by hosting our first annual Ornament Fundraiser. This year’s theme was Snowflakes—Unique and fragile like our children. Volunteer, Rhonda O’Neill, creator of this year’s theme, worked industriously to spread word of our fundraiser and our mission across Wichita and Sedgwick County!
